Grant Writer
Part-Time / Hybrid Remote
The Vancouver Island Counselling Centre for Immigrants and Refugees’ (VICCIR) primary mission is to provide mental health counselling services to immigrants and refugees living on Vancouver Island and other parts of British Columbia.
As a Grant Writer, you play a key role at the Vancouver Island Counselling Centre for Immigrants and Refugees (VICCIR), reporting directly to the Executive Director.
The Grant Writer works collaboratively with the Executive Director and staff to identify funding needs, develop solicitation strategies, conduct prospect research, structure and prepare related materials, complete and coordinate grant reporting, and ensure necessary follow-up.
This role includes duties such as developing proposals, completing grant-specific reports, and researching the availability of public and private grants. You are responsible for monitoring and reporting on the grant funding process to ensure VICCIR’s compliance with all requirements for receiving grant funding.
Additionally, you are expected to highlight any service delivery approaches that could facilitate increased funding opportunities.
In this role, the Grant Writer will:

Share and support the vision and mandate of the Vancouver Island Counselling Centre for Immigrants and Refugees (VICCIR) in collaboration with the Executive Director.

Work closely with the Executive Director and staff to identify funding needs, develop solicitation strategies, conduct prospect research, prepare related materials, complete reporting, and follow up as required.
Your duties include developing and writing grant proposals, completing grant-specific reports, and researching the availability of public and private grants. You are responsible for monitoring and reporting on the grant funding process to ensure VICCIR’s compliance with all grant-related requirements.
In this role, you will:

Update the current data-collection system (e.g., Microsoft Teams, shared folders, channels, and shared drives).

Develop and maintain databases and systems to record and track grant proposals, awards, and related statistical information.

Prepare, review, and distribute reports, studies, summaries, and analyses in collaboration with the Executive Director, as required.

Research appropriate organizations and funding opportunities.

Review grant submissions and reports with the Executive Director (and, where necessary, other employees) prior to submission, ensuring timely completion.

Develop an annual calendar for funding submissions from a variety of funders.

Research and apply to organizations that could potentially provide funding.

Explore joint project opportunities with the Executive Director.

Prepare and compile all components of grant submissions.

Highlight service delivery approaches that could facilitate increased funding.

Communicate and collaborate with team members working on grant-related data in a timely manner.

Participate in regular team meetings using online platforms to ensure smooth communication.

Work as part of a team, providing and receiving feedback constructively.

Seek input from the Executive Director to achieve a coordinated approach.

Stay informed about trends and opportunities to improve efficiency.

Pass a Criminal Record Check.
Grants and Financial Acumen:

Possess demonstrated success in grant writing and securing funding from government and private sources.

Proficient in budget management and financial oversight to ensure sustainability.

Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, funders, and policymakers.

Strong communication skills to effectively represent the organization to collaborators and community.
